It is often done while contrast media moves through the part of the body being examined. The contrast medium is barium sulphate, water-soluble, or iodine based. Fluoroscopy procedures diagnose and monitor medical conditions. Please contact us for assistance.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">Women must inform their referring clinician and the radiographer on duty if there is any possibility that they may be pregnant.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">The procedure will be discussed with each patient, ensuring that they are comfortable and understand what it entails.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">Depending on the area that will be examined, patients may want to wear comfortable clothing. They may be asked to change into a hospital gown and to remove jewellery and other metallic items from their body.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><u><span class=\"s2\">At the time of the booking our staff will give patients clear instructions regarding any preparations prior to the procedure<\/i><\/u><i>.<\/i>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"li1\">Patients must inform the radiologist and\/or radiographer if they have impaired kidney function or any allergies to medication, iodine, or latex.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><b>All barium studies,<\/b> including <b>defaecograms,<\/b> require eight to twelve hours fasting.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><b>Barium enema studies<\/b> require a bowel prep.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\">Patients should empty their bladders before <b>cystograms and retrograde urethrograms.<\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","patient_qa":[{"qa_branch":"All","qa_question":"What is barium?","qa_answer":"<p class=\"p1\">Barium is a thick, white liquid that is visible on X-rays.
